A Sonnet with Gratitude for Friendship

Is solitude a virtue nigh preferred?

To shun without, remain ensconced within?

Withdrawal impulse from a psyche scarred-

Distrust and caution mark an outlook lean;

Consider amity a futile choice,

The lonely soul pursues attachment drab,

To every compromise it deigns rejoice,

Resigned to ford along its solo cab;

But hark! Behold a kindly kindred being,

Such good intentioned empathy he wields,

Placates this weary callused wretch that clings,

And loyally with dedication shields;

   This ode I proffer, you my close comrade,

   My ally, friend, compatriot, brother, shade.
